"The Noise of the Boyfriend"

This is a design that I created for a Sound assignment for my Beginning Digital Imaging class. I had to find a sound that I wanted to recreate into an image. I chose the sound of my boyfriend's snore. He doesn't snore too terribly often, but sometimes he can get loud for a short time. So this is my interpretation. I felt like deep blues and grays seemed fitting for the color scheme of the idea of sleep and dreams. The line shapes represent the quiet before the storm in a way. When he exhales deeply, he is fairly quiet, but then it gets loud; in short bursts. The bold spiky shapes represent those brief bursts of sound.

Time to Reveal the Secret...

So what film did we choose?

My outstandingly dynamic and dramatic team has finally chosen the film that we want to remake into a 5 minute video. I am going to tell you the best line of the whole movie and you tell me if you can guess it. Okay, ready?

"Daniel San, must talk. Walk on the road, hm? Walk on right side, safe. Walk on left side, safe. Walk middle... sooner or later SQUISH. Just like grape. Here, Karate same thing. You karate do, yes. You karate do, no. You karate do guess so. SQUISH. Like grape. Understand?"

WAIT! That's not it yet! Keep going...

"Yea, I understand."
"You ready?"
"Yea, I'm ready."
"Yes."

Keep reading. Almost there... (The suspense is great isn't it?) There are a few more exchanges of words. Blah blah blah.

"Now. Wax on left hand, Wax off right hand. Wax on. Wax off. Breath in through nose. Out da mouth."

Do you know what it is now? The KARATE KID! I can't wait to get started.

Post 19 for Art

Wow. I thought the animation in this video was very effective. Everything was clean cut and streamline allowing my eyes to move with ease as the video streamed. I also liked how simple the shapes and characters were. I never realized how striking the most effortless shapes could be.

Even with the awesome visuals there was a lot of information being thrown our for me to grasp. I had to re-watch the video in order to understand everything that was trying to be conveyed. With so many acronyms I got a little lost in the verbiage of the video. And trying to keep the facts in chronological order was a struggle.

However, it was still very interesting to see the timeline in history of the internet. This video was made about three years ago though and it is even more exciting to see the difference between 2009 and now. The internet is now used for so much more than they conveyed in the video.

Full Length into Five Minutes: Possible??

So the goal is for a group of us to be able to take a Hollywood picture and recreate the movie in 5 minutes. Crazy? Yes. Can we do it? Of course! This project is going to be semi-mind blowing, but we are going to have fun with it.

This post is dedicated to brainstorming for which awesome films to choose from. I am trying to limit the creativity to 5 feature films. There are many things to consider while brainstorming. The time of year, the time frame we have, the amount of time we can each dedicate to this creation, is it reliable to actually recreate this film...

Since its fall and starting to get colder, we don't want to do any movies that are specifically set in the sumer time or involve water (at least I am NOT jumping in).

1. James Bond: Golden Eye - A classic.
2. Fast and the Furious - What is not to love with fast cars? However, here on campus, it would have to be the Slow and Steady (not like the tortoise and the hare though!3. Star Wars - I want to be a ewok! You know the flying teddy bears?! I want to be one of those.4. Rocky - DIBS ON ROCKY!!!! Yea, I went there.

5. Ghost Busters - Yes, that was on this weekend and yes, I did watch part of it.  I still haven't seen all of it, but how can we not want to do this?!

Okay, I have one more. I know I said I would limit to only 5, however, I want to add this one too...
6. Indiana Jones - You know you have been caught humming the theme song more than once. It would be pretty funny to have the opening theme song being sung by our actors that way we don't have any problems with copy-writes.

Beginning to see Charles Csuri

After looking through the two very large Digital Imaging books, I decided to do my oral presentation/paper on the digital master Charles Csuri. While flipping through pages, Csuri's image of the horses made from ribbons caught my attention.
After looking at this image a little closer, I found the art more intriguing the longer I stared. I am very excited to explore more from this artist.  Here is the link to his site, which is the beginning of a great adventure.   http://www.csuri.com/

Ideas for my own website design

I have come realize that I like simplistic website designs. The more solid the background, the better. If I started my own website, I would like it to contain many of my photos, so having a basic background will help to make my images stand out.

Here are some of the websites that I find attractive. These are only a few of the many though.

Foragers

I think Duke & Raby's idea of Foragers is an interesting one. This could actually be possible. Their description is just sparked so many ideas for me.

Inventions

Tesla tamed electricity:

Clara Rockmore and her Theremin:

Also, if you would like a demonstration of the theremin, watch:

Buckminster Fuller coined the term 'tensegrity' do you say? Interesting.

What else did he become apart of? The Dymaxion car? Really now?

Possibilities

Second assignment ideas... So very lacking. But here goes what I have.
1) Osmosis pillow/book cover (make life so much easier)
2) Shoes with detachable heels so that they can be both flats and heels
3) cylindrical can compacter
Hopefully I will be able to make one of these work for this assignment. Wish me luck.

Box animation

I LOVED the lighting! and the positioning of the camera. That was a very neat video to watch. I want to be able to do something like that.

Wow... I am blown away. That is my goal. One day this will happen. Yes. Challenge accepted.

One Million Dollars...

If I had a million dollars to use to make my image as stunning as possible what would I do?

Honestly, I might edit this a ton more at a later date, but first thing I would do is make my image larger than life. I would want it to be huge. Then I would want the water wings of the right hand butterfly to be actual physical fountains. The water could cascade of rocks that were painted various shades of metallic blues to make sure that the wings are high lighted. The black and white side bar butterflies could be created using feathers or rare flowers...OR copper sculpted butterflies that have patina all on the outside so they have a soft shade rather than just being gray. The destroyed wing on the left butterfly could be created from physical trash and have a piece of a destroyed plane coming out of it. I want my piece to be 3D and have depth to it.

I will have to think a little longer...

Number 8 Entry

Very original name now isn't it? :) Well this is my assignment. I finished it about Monday of last week and I am pretty happy with it. It was difficult to create enough layers to complete the project though. I loved creating the images in the wings.

The water wing took the most time to create, but I think it turned out rather well. Initially, this is not what I had imagined in my head, but I have to come to love it. I hope you like it as well.

Parody

I thought this was a good parody for the assignment. I found his twist on the Lonely Island song very cute.

Appropriation with my Theme

This made me think of my image.

It is not the chaos theory like I am attempting to do with my butterflies, but I thought that this was still really cool. Someone has taken the time to print different logos, themes, or really anything they want onto an actual butterfly's wings using an ink jet printer. So instead of just making wings from random pictures like I am, they use actual wings and just add some more interest to them.

Sketch of End Result

My plan has changed somewhat. I want to now create an image using a couple different pieces. I want to use an image of a butterfly body, then design wings using water to represent how the theory works. Even the slightest flap of a butterfly's wings can have grand repercussions.

It is sideways, I am not sure how to rotate it, but this is the basic sketch of the idea. Hopefully it will look better than this in the end.

Themes for Appropriation

Chaos Theory:
The flap of a butterfly's wing leads to so much...even a natural disaster.

Pretty on the Outside:
Creating the image of a peacock with pictures of things symbolize the 'Go Green' effect

A Child's Hand:
Simple, but filled with so many sad things...

John Baldessari's Artwork

Can I please just say that John B's voice has unbelievable lulling effect?! Once he started talking in his documentary I wanted to fall asleep. However, his pictures kept me interested. When I Google-ed his name I found many images that had not been seen in the video. I chose this piece because I thought I could decipher what he was trying to say. That isn't to say that I'm not completely off though! That's actually very likely. But here goes:

Yes, this image is a little promiscuous, I do realize that, but I think it has a deeper meaning that just love.

The images of people look like they belong together, like he cut them apart (which is what I think he did), but just because they 'look' like they belong, do they actually? With as often as people get separated in marriages or relationships, does this piece express what is actually going on? I feel like its almost as if those two are making love, but they feel disconnected or even possibly imaging someone else while with their partner.

I don't know why this piece captured my attention like it has, but I find it to be interesting.

In Addition to...

We found some additional free time before starting a movie in class and while waiting I found another work that I liked for the definition of Appropriation. Here it is:
I thought it was neat since the face seems to be the face of Botticelli's Venus and the use of Van Gogh's  'Starry Night' is breath taking.

Appropriation in Art

My original idea was to find something with the Mona Lisa in it, or something including the painting of Adam and God's fingers touching, but I found that to be somewhat cliche. Instead, I to find an image that is 'borrowing' a cultural aspect and making the piece completely different.

Rather than having a model in only a bra and advertising for it, this photo-shoot decided to 'borrow' the Native American culture, and create a better marketing campaign.

The First of Many

Time to begin my blog for art once again.
While in one of my Technical Communications classes this morning, I was given the assignment to use a mask on an image and insert a person into the scene. Here is what I came up with...

I added the little girl with the balloon in the bottom left corner. Okay, getting ready to start the first assignment for this class. Let's see where this goes.
